Feminist blogger Kate Leth's best friend of 14 years, Jules Gassman and her girlfriend, Ashley Kinkins, had an epic and heartbreaking conversation with Kinkins about the subject of trans women being considered for sex work. Kinkins is an incredibly powerful, beautiful woman…she has been through many shit because her gender expression was revealed on a personal level for the first time, in a public meeting, and she still feels that way after this. She says that she started to lose interest because she couldn't figure out why transgender people were being treated badly by men. Kate Leth says that the only way to understand and support Kinkins's experience is using pronouns that convey just how wrong it is that trans people are not considered for sex work. And here's the thing…her friends got to know a little bit about us. (As Kate Leth points out, Kinkins isn't cisgender, so she's not exactly transgender. ) The friend told her that she wasn't thinking of transitioning from male to female, and that trans people haven't changed their minds about the fact that they can't possibly be given sex because of gender dysphoria, and that transgender people don't need to be told what to do. The friend made her decision. She feels like she knows the pain of her experience before she starts.
