My Alchemical Romance: “The Chamber of Reflection”

My Masonic Education

Masonic Education
Where should you begin?

Online options include blogs and podcasts.

Ashlars to Ashes is a good place to start for an automatically updated and aggregated list of current and past Masonic online contributions.

Blogs that I read most often (alphabetically, not in order of importance):
  • Freemasons for Dummies
  • Millennial Freemason
  • Pike Quotes
  • The Laudable Pursuit
  • The Mason's Lady
  • The Midnight Freemasons
  • The Tao of Masonry
Podcasts that I listen to most often (alphabetically again):
  • After Lodge
  • In the Chair
  • The Masonic Roundtable
  • The Tyler's Place
  • The Winding Stairs
  • Whence Came You?
  • X Oriente
Here are a few more online resources that I check out often:
  • Bessel's Masonic Info
  • California Freemason Digital Magazine
  • Freemason Information
  • Masonic Information Center
  • Pietre-Stones
  • Southern California Research Lodge
Offline, I recommend finding local lodges doing educational events. Around me, there are several lodges sharing light pretty regularly:
  • South Pasadena No. 290 "Illumination Series"
  • Culver-City Foshay No. 467 "Esoterica Group"
The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, USA administers a brilliant set of correspondence courses that cover the Craft and Scottish Rite degrees called the Master Craftsman Course. I highly recommend them, and if you do not already have the books they come with, it is cheaper to purchase the books with the program than by themselves.
  • MC I provides an esoteric perspective on the Blue Lodge degrees through Albert Pike's Esoterika
  • MC II provides a thorough overview of the Scottish Rite degrees through Art De Hoyo's Scottish Rite Ritual Monitor and Guide and Rex Hutchen's A Bridge to Light (must be purchased separately)
  • MC III delves into greater philosophical inquiry of the Scottish Rite degrees through Albert Pike's Moral and Dogma (annotated edition)
I recommend checking with your local Scottish Rite Valley as well for educational opportunities. Starting in January, the Pasadena Scottish Rite will have two different education groups.
  • The Philosophical Discussion Group meets the last Saturday of each month to discuss the historical and philosophical development of each of the Scottish Rite degrees, one per month.
  • The Master Craftsman Study Group will meet the third Saturday of each month to help brethren work together through the Master Craftsman courses described above.
If you have anything that I should add to this list, let me know. I will continually update it. I wish you the best on your search for greater light!
